A leading international law firm required ongoing translation services for a high-profile case involving two major industrial giants. The Client
Clyde & Co is a leading international law firm that specializes in legal matters of a complex, high-profile, multi-jurisdictional nature. With practice areas in aviation, insurance and reinsurance, shipping and maritime, international trade, energy, real estate, corporate and commercial law, the firm is regularly involved in complex global cases involving multiple languages and locations. Clyde & Co has over 1,300 staff based in 19 offices worldwide, and conducts business across 120 countries.
The Challenge
Clyde & Co was handling a case involving two of the world's most powerful aluminum producers: Rusal, a Russian company controlled by Oleg Deripaska, and Norsk Hydro, a Norwegian industrial giant. The case required a constant stream of document translations from and into Russian and Tajik, the majority of which would need to be completed on an expedited basis.
In order to facilitate their own review process, Clyde & Co required the translations of the largest projects to be returned as hard copies. To add to the challenge, the collated hardcopy originals would need to be included with the translated documents, a requirement which called for a tremendous amount of project management. In light of the high costs already associated with this case, it was important for the firm to find a translation provider who could offer the lowest possible costs and the highest ROI for their services.
The Solution
With a demonstrated history of delivering high quality translations with accelerated turnarounds, TransPerfect Legal Solutions (TLS) was the clear choice for Clyde & Co. In order to keep translations costs as low as possible, the firm entered into an agreement with TLS that established preferred pricing for all translations required for the duration of the case. By centralizing all their translation work with TLS, Clyde & Co could rest assured that the documents would be translated consistently throughout the entire project.
TLS assembled a team of highly qualified Russian and Tajik linguists, often working over the weekend or during holidays in order to meet the client's important deadlines. Due to the nature of the case, the majority of the projects had to be completed on a very rushed basis. To ensure that TLS was able to accommodate the firm's needs as efficiently as possible, the project management team customized a workflow process to meet the client's quality, turnaround time, and pricing requirements.
Altogether, TLS translated over one million words from Russian and Tajik into English and from English into Russian. TLS regularly hand-delivered the projects to the client—sometimes on a daily basis. Over the course of the partnership, TLS was able to consistently meet the firm's deadlines and strict quality requirements, and Clyde & Co was very pleased with our work on the project.
